iPhone App of the Week: AOL Radio

This is the first post in what I hope will be a series. Every week I will pick my favorite app from the iPhone/iPod Touch App store.

This week’s pick is AOL Radio. It’s a free app and probably the only good thing coming from AOL these days. It is a streaming radio application that works over wifi 3G and edge data. This means as long as you have a data connection you can stream these radio stations. They have a wide variety of options from classical to electronica to modern rock. There are even a few good talk radio stations, which come in handy from time to time. I used this app to stream the vice presidential debates.

Another nice feature uses the location awareness feature set. If you allow the app to see your currenzlocation it will find stations that are from your area. I live in the large metropolitan area of Houston, but still only had 3 local stations. This feature may work better in your area.

Sound quality varies based on your connection. Wifi is of course the best, and edge is barely tolerable. If you are listening to a talk station you can get by with edge, but music is so distorted I can’t handle it.

What pushed me over thedge is the All stations. A few of the music styles have stations dedicated to one artist. They have an all radiohead station which has a nice mix of old and new radiohead music. It’s apps like these that will kill of terrestrial radio.

Batter Blaster

You may have noticed this odd image in my Flickr feed. What is this you may ask? It’s Batter Blaster of course.

Tired of the mess from making pancake and/or waffle batter? Now you can get it in a convenient spray can. Plus it’s organic, so it must be good for you!

They even have a ringtone of their jingle.

“Make a better breakfast faster, Batter Blaster!”

It’s clear to me that organic has hit it’s peak and will go the way of the dodo soon.

Fringe, the best new show

This is the best new show on TV. The jury is still out on how good it will be, but this weeks episode gave me hope. It’s an interesting mix of technology and paranormal events. I’m starting to enjoy the characters and the way they are being developed. Click read on to see the video.
